About the game from Steam

Fools, Maniacs and Liars is a suspenseful narrative game set in China.

Background

  • The story unfolds in the fictional ceramic county in southern Fujian—Wushan.

  • Since ancient times, a giant Buddha known as "Mida" has stood upon Mount Wushan. Countless folk tales surround the statue—some even say Mida is alive.

  • Then, one day in 2009, the Buddha vanished into thin air. And a half-century enigma was about to come to light.

Story

  • This is a realist tale shot through with magical realism and absurdity—a story born of a tumultuous age.

  • Woven from layers of suspense and dark humor, the chronicle of the Wushan Great Buddha's demise begins.

  • The story twists and turns through constant peril and escalating mysteries, where nothing is certain until the final revelation.

Cinematic Narrative

  • With cinematic visuals and carefully crafted sound design, you'll experience a feast of Chinese aesthetics.

  • Comic-panel framing is woven throughout the game, lending a distinctive atmosphere and a smooth gameplay cadence.

Multiple Characters

  • Step into the roles of six distinct characters—one after another—returning to the month before the Mida's disappearance to uncover the truth.

  • Six characters, each with a markedly different personality, background, and way of getting by. Under the compassionate gaze of Mida, their fates seem preordained, yet still brim with possibility.

Light Puzzles

  • Feel free to experiment. Our puzzles are designed to be readable and fair, not punishing. We respect your time.

  • This is a story-driven experience complemented by light puzzle interactions. Every design choice exists to serve immersion.
