Your Very First
CompleteYour Very First is a Core Keeper achievement for hatching a pet from an egg (Steam achievement list).
Scope: crafting an Egg Incubator and completing the first hatch on PC, rather than pet builds, leveling or every egg location.
Craft and power the incubator
EditThe Egg Incubator hatches Pet Eggs and is crafted at the Copper Workbench (0.6.0 patch notes, 10 May 2023). It must be powered with electricity to hatch an egg (Developer Q&A, 24 May 2023). Generators supply electricity (0.4.0 patch notes, 15 June 2022), and everything connected to a lit wire is powered (0.5.1.0 patch notes, 13 December 2022). Place the incubator where power can reach it before putting an egg in.
Find a Pet Egg
EditUse a Pet Egg, not just any egg: Dodos, for example, produce Eggs that are used to cook Cakes (1.0.0 patch notes, 27 August 2024). Different Pet Eggs hatch into different pets (0.6.0 patch notes, 10 May 2023). Some Pet Eggs can be found in crates or digging spots, some are dropped by bosses and some are sold by certain merchants (Developer Q&A, 24 May 2023). The achievement does not require a particular pet species; its description is "Hatched your first pet from an egg" (Steam achievement list).
Incubate, then hatch
Edit- Put the Pet Egg in the powered incubator (Developer Q&A, 24 May 2023).
- Wait for it to hatch into a Cracked Egg, then take the Cracked Egg out (0.6.0 patch notes, 10 May 2023).
- Open the Cracked Egg. On PC, right-click it in the hotbar (1.0.0 patch notes, 27 August 2024).
- Add the pet to the Pet Slot in the character window (0.6.0 patch notes, 10 May 2023). Opening the Cracked Egg does not equip the pet automatically (1.1.0.2 patch notes, 18 March 2025).
Confirm the goal
EditCheck the platform achievement list for Your Very First after hatching. Its condition is the hatch itself, not a pet's level: reaching max level on a pet is a separate achievement, Pet Prodigy (Steam achievement list).
If the Copper Workbench is not available yet, Tips for Beginners covers the early crafting loop. Cooking covers the Cooking Pot and its recipe book.
